Avoiding Conflicts of Interest

Conflicts of interest must be actively avoided.

A conflict of interest can arise when employees have a personal interest in a transaction or situation that could affect their business judgment, loyalty to our company or work performance.

Activities to be aware of that may cross over to conflicts of interest include:

  • Political activities and contributions
  • Accepting gifts or hospitality from clients or vendors
  • Offering gifts or hospitality to clients or vendors
  • Trading in securities of our partners

Conflict of Interest Policy

We disclose outside business activities.

We count on our Teammates to be both collaborative and compliant:

  • In the world

  • In our business with customers and partners

  • In how we compete in the market

Similarly, we hold our business partners, vendors, and suppliers to these same high standards of trust, honesty, legitimacy and fairness in business.

Do

  • Be Vigilant: Take a moment to consider the implication of an action and if it may be a conflict of interest

  • Be Transparent: Teammates must always report accurate gifts, entertainment, and hospitality information whether given, or received. Teammates must also include all relevant information when reporting.

  • Keep Records: Teammates must always keep detailed and accurate records of all transactions. Longs Peak conducts screening thorough audits to verify these records are accurate.

Don't

  • Teammates must never give or receive money outside of a contractual payment to other parties.
  • Teammates should not be making direct payments on Longs Peak's behalf to other parties and must not give or accept cash or cash equivalents.
  • Excessive gifts are also big no-nos, whether they be sports cars, video game consoles, or tickets to events—including sporting events and concerts.
  • We do not use charitable contributions as “quid pro quo”—i.e., in exchange for something.
  • We make hiring decisions and promotions based on merit, not to sweeten our business relationships with our vendors, suppliers, partners, or other third parties.

Navigating relationships with clients can be tricky. It's good to know we have policies in place and people that can help better define them to us.
